Brooklyn-based street artist and illustrator Justin Winslow is out to transform New York into a magical wonderland, one mural at a time.
Justin Winslow’s style is unmistakable. Mythical creatures, vibrant rainbows, and felines of all sizes decorate his works. It takes a lot to stand out on the streets of New York but his pieces do just that. Street art began to influence Justin upon his arrival in New York 15 years ago. The power that murals have to influence mood and the sheer scale of the pieces were appealing to him as an artist. He eventually took note of a set wooden panels on an abandoned property in his Brooklyn neighborhood. They would have new art installed every season. Justin eventually found the curator of the project and was soon working on his very first mural.
Along with transforming the streets of New York with his upbeat and positive messages, his recent illustration work has found him paying homage to COVID-19 first responders and caretakers. Even though the city has been ravaged by the virus, Justin is looking ahead towards a better future. “New York will always be a hub of international styles and trends and I find it incredibly inspiring to be surrounded by the creative community here,” Justin says.
