Move over pumpkin spice. Tis the season for Mocha Lite. COVID won’t stop this soulful and thought-provoking drag tour de force as she makes her entertainment dreams come true.
With a Netflix project under her belt and a podcast on the horizon, New York drag queen Mocha Lite has been keeping active during the COVID-19 pandemic. Along with these career milestones she’s been testing fierce new looks, streaming on twitch, and working on creative strategy with her partner in crime, Misty Meaner.
Growing up in a family of illustrators, Mocha was always interested in the arts. Performing in school plays was standard for her and she eventually made her way to gymnastics and ice skating lessons as outlets for self expression. In high school, Mocha saw her first drag queen and she knew this unique mix of diva performance art, makeup, and fashion was her ticket to the stage.
Mocha’s early drag influences include comedic genius Sherry Vine, fashion powerhouse Raja, and Broadway performer Peppermint, but one R&B singer occupies a special place in her heart. Amerie of 1 Thing fame was the first biracial performer in the pop music sphere that Mocha identified with. This representation made a big impression on her and she knew that being “kissed by the sun” was something to embrace.
From her beginnings on Fire Island and Long Island club Lux to the biggest drag stages of Brooklyn & Manhattan including 3 Dollar Bill, Macri Park, Playhouse, and Hardware, Mocha has high kicked and lip synced her way through the Big Apple. During the pandemic you can catch her weekly Twitch stream as well as her regular Instagram gigs with all of her favorite friends.
