New York nightlife and entertainment icon DJ Chauncey D isn’t letting COVID-19 slow him down. From digital happy hours and live entertainment showcases, to a virtual NYC LGBTQ Pride celebration, The Best Of Everything New York (TBOENY) goes behind the scenes with one of New York’s most popular personalities.
When you’re the resident DJ at the world’s most famous LGBTQ bar, The Stonewall Inn, it takes a true man of the people to keep the community active. Enter Chauncey Dandridge, the enigmatic creative force that supports local queer entertainers and organizes fellow citizens to stay civically engaged. He fundraises for queer causes, provides the sound for noteworthy annual events and is as down to earth as he was almost two decades ago when he first hit the scene.
When you experience a DJ Chauncey D set, a 90’s club influence is evident in his sound. He builds on the foundations of club legends Peter Rauhofer and David Morales. He adds his signature sleazy percussion to soulful house beats and what comes to life is an amalgam of atmospheric artistry. Tune in every Thursday night at 8PM on BBOX for Chauncey’s Sodomighty Show to groove and grind at home during quarantine.
Now that we find ourselves in Pride Month without the possibility of congregating physically, Chauncey has taken on producing a virtual LGBTQ Pride Event called Kaleidoscope. Singer-songwriters, drag queens, burlesque performers, DJ’s and musicians will take the stage over a two-day period (June 13 & 14) to share their talents and celebrate Pride. “All are welcome to perform here,” Chauncey says. “There are no corporate sponsors and we have the freedom to truly express ourselves. The impressive roster of artists looks forward to celebrating in a very unique way this year”.
Once New York gets back to a new normal, post-COVID, Chauncey is looking forward to producing and hosting in-person events and bringing people together once again. Listen to Chauncey on Mixcloud until then and check out some of his favorite New York haunts:
Best New York Pizza: Uncle Marios on 9th Ave and W 51st St. It’s just tasty and the owner is a hoot.
Best New York Coffee: Joe’s Coffee on Gay St. Interesting combinations and the best flavors.
Best New York Bagel: Bagels and Brews on Broadway and 43rd St in Astoria. Lightly toasted Cinnamon Raisin with Sundried Tomato spread.
